Invizimals was one of the biggest surprises for us at E3. Shown only behind closed doors, we were captivated by its unique camera-based, Pokemon-inspired gameplay. It felt “magical,” and we think you’ll agree once you see this story trailer. As you can see, these critters are real, only visible through the PSP camera. But what if the energy of these invisible animals could be weaponized? Terrifying, isn’t it? As the trailer shows, this is serious, Academy Award-winning stuff. You will not witness truer human drama.

Late last year, our very own Davis Freeberg lamented the lack of a Redbox video game rental kiosk. Hope was renewed this spring when Redbox announced they’d begin testing combo DVD+gaming kiosks and postal mail game rental-co Gamefly launched a self-service machine at Texas Tech University. Now, as the Inside Redbox blog learned, Redbox’s long awaited video game inventory rollout has begun. And it looks like Reno is one of the first markets to offer video games.

Inventory seems limited (13 Xbox 360 games listed). However, the convenience factor could be huge. Not to mention, some (me) often use game rentals as a trial to determine which titles I’m going to need to purchase. However, I’m not yet convinced this model will fly. While games and movies utilize the same flat optical media, usage patterns and demographics differ

You can find him in the club, you can find him in his own video game, and now you can find him in Infinity Ward’s upcoming game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Robert Bowling confirmed to Kotaku that Fiddy will be supplying “one of many squad voices” featured in the game’s multiplayer and Spec Ops modes. Bowling mentioned 50 Cent’s lines will be standard shooter fare — “Reloading,” “Tango Down,” and the like. We pray he’ll also sneak in a reference to his precious jewel-encrusted cranium.

Update: Infinity Ward tells us that 50 Cent is “one of many squad voices” that will be featured in the multiplayer and Spec Ops modes in Modern Warfare 2. Expect to hear Fifty saying things like”Reloading,” “Watch your fire,” “I’m down, get me up!” and “Tango Down!” according to Bowling.

“He is one of quite a few casual cameos in the game, none of which I can name at this point,” Bowling says. “Benji and Joel of Good Charlotte NOT being one of them. They’re just good friends with Curtis and came along with him when he was here recently to check out his voice in the game.”

I wonder what other surprises they have in store for us.

Touchable Holography presented by SIGGRAPH2009

Part 1:
A holographic image floating in mid-air is no longer a mere dream. Provision Holo provides floating images by utilizing a concave mirror. Although you can see the images, you cannot feel any reacting sensation. We use the wiimotes for a simple tracking system.

Part 2:
We use the “Airborne Ultrasound Tactile Display” developed in our lab. Ultrasound pushes objects in the direction of its propagation. Force is generated at the focal point of the ultrasound. The focal point can be moved by controlling the phase delays.

Part 3:
The tactile display attached on the roof gives contact force. You can feel rain drops falling on your hand, or a small creature.
